Our Board of Directors

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who provide oversight, direction, and accountability for all of the Foundation's activities. All Directors have visited Rubona Primary School and are familiar with the community and the school's needs.

Michael Kieran

Michael Kieran

President

Michael Kieran brings over 20 years of leadership experience spanning talent strategy, organizational design, and operations in high-growth and mission-driven organizations. Michael's work is grounded in building durable systems, strong governance, and accountable execution.

As President, he oversees the Foundation's strategy, fundraising, and delivery of education-focused infrastructure projects in western Uganda, including the development of safe classrooms, essential learning resources, and access to secondary education for high-potential students.

His connection to Rubona is both personal and long-standing, rooted in family ties to the region and a commitment to translating resources into tangible, on-the-ground impact. Michael serves alongside a small, hands-on board and ensures that all donor contributions are directed fully to program delivery.

Betty Kageye Kieran

Betty Kageye Kieran

Director · Former student of Rubona Primary School

Betty Kageye Kieran was born in Uganda and attended Rubona Primary School for several years. She later graduated from Makerere College and emigrated to Canada in 1972.

Betty has maintained a lifelong connection to East Africa and to the Rubona community. She is the former owner and manager of Giraffe African Art, which she operated for over 40 years. Through this work, she travelled extensively in Africa, working directly with artisans and managing retail operations in Canada.

Betty has been involved in charitable initiatives supporting education and community development, including fundraising efforts for housing and HIV/AIDS support projects in southern Africa. She has also contributed to cultural and educational exhibitions, including the Beads of Life exhibition at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

As a Director of the Rubona Primary School Foundation, Betty brings personal knowledge of the school, regional experience, and a strong commitment to responsible stewardship.

Peter Kieran

Peter Kieran

Director · Site visit and project oversight

Peter Kieran is a founding Director of the Rubona Primary School Foundation and brings extensive experience in governance, infrastructure development, and oversight of complex projects in Africa and other emerging markets.

He founded CPCS Transcom, an international management consulting and advisory firm specializing in private investment in infrastructure, and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer until his retirement. CPCS has operated in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom, advising governments and private investors on major infrastructure projects.

During his career, Peter led multidisciplinary advisory teams on transportation, port, rail, power, and urban transit projects across Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe, including work in Uganda and other parts of East Africa.

For 5 years Peter has served as Chairman of the Canada Council on Africa. He holds a degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Toronto and an MBA from Harvard University.

Camilla (Cami) Kieran

Camilla (Cami) Kieran

Director · Web design & digital outreach

Camilla (Cami) Kieran is a student web designer and technology leader with experience creating websites for nonprofits, student organizations, and online businesses. She specializes in web design, user experience, branding, and digital outreach, combining technical expertise with a strong eye for design.

In addition to developing and managing websites, she has experience leading technology teams, coordinating digital projects, and helping organizations strengthen their online presence.

Cami is passionate about using technology to create meaningful impact and is interested in engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship.
