The Community

Rubona, Uganda

Rubona sits in Kabarole District, in the green hills of western Uganda. Rubona Primary School serves a growing rural community of families who place a deep value on education.

Rubona Primary School grounds with classroom buildings and students gathered on the field.

Kabarole District lies in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda. The landscape is fertile and farming sustains most households, but resources for schools are limited and stretched thin.

Rubona Primary School draws students from villages across the surrounding area. As enrollment has grown, classrooms have become crowded — and one classroom has been condemned as unsafe for use.

The community is closely involved in the life of the school: parents, teachers, and local leaders share a strong belief that education is the most reliable path to lasting opportunity.

Our work supports that conviction by improving the basic conditions in which students learn — beginning with a safe, well-built classroom.
