Education Technology Project

RACHEL offline learning servers are on their way to Rubona Primary School — alongside internet access for the school office, and computers and tablets now being finalized.

Technology should strengthen the learning already happening at Rubona.

RACHEL: a library that fits in a classroom.

RACHEL — the Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning — is a portable, battery-powered device built by the nonprofit World Possible. It creates its own WiFi hotspot that students and teachers join with any phone, tablet, or laptop, opening a library of thousands of curated educational resources: encyclopedias, video lessons, science simulations, storybooks, and more.

Because the content lives on the device itself, RACHEL works completely offline — no internet connection, no data costs, and no recurring fees. Dozens of students can connect at once, and teachers get a password-protected portal to upload their own materials. It is used by hundreds of organizations in more than 40 countries, in schools, clinics, and communities exactly like Rubona.

The RACHEL devices for Rubona Primary School have been ordered.

Current status: RACHEL devices ordered · computers & tablets being finalized.

  1. 1

    Step 1

    Understand the school’s needs

Work with school leaders and teachers to identify learning priorities, existing equipment, power availability, and the practical needs of classrooms.

  2. 2

    Step 2

Bring the world’s knowledge offline — RACHEL ordered

RACHEL devices have been ordered for the school. RACHEL (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning) is a portable, battery-powered server that creates its own WiFi hotspot, giving students and teachers access to thousands of curated educational resources — even where internet is limited or unavailable.

  3. 3

    Step 3

Connect the school to the internet

Establish reliable internet access so the headmaster can send and receive email, communicate with the Foundation and partners, and coordinate the school’s administration — a first, practical step toward broader connectivity.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Finalize computers & tablets

Select and source computers and tablets for students and teachers. This aspect is still being finalized — device types, quantities, and budget are being worked out with the school before purchase.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Set up, train & introduce

Install the RACHEL servers and devices, support teachers with training, and introduce digital learning into the classroom gradually, gathering feedback as access expands.

  6. 6

    Step 6

    Review & improve

Monitor reliability, teacher and student use, learning value, and ongoing costs. Use school feedback to guide improvements and share confirmed progress with supporters.

Help make digital access possible.
